Upcoming events
4-hour session is available for EMS personnel who do not want to take the full Ice Rescue class but want to learn about the medical concerns and procedures. They will also be introduced to the operations and made aware of the procedures for Tenders and Ice Rescue Technicians however no on-ice or hands-on training will be conducted. See the attached outline for some of the questions that will be answered during this part of the class.
SUFFOLK COUNTY EMTs WILL RECEIVE CME CREDIT (if you are taking the Ice Rescue Class, you do not need to sign up for the EMS Only class)
If any students have any illness or flu, common cold symptoms, you will not be permitted to attend. We are asking you to be responsible and notify us in advance. You will not be charged if you have to cancel due to illness. The BFD, will take the necessary precautions to adhere to social distancing and other preventive measures to ensure the safety of all attending. Please bring a mask with you.

This class will teach your members to safely and rapidly rescue a victim, write SOP’s that protect the members and department from liability, properly handle patients to prevent further injury and increase survival chances, and many other techniques that need to be used to greatly increase the odds of a successful rescue and the safety of the rescuers. No prior experience is necessary and Certifications for either full Surface Ice Rescue Technician or Operations Level are available. Added to the class again this year for all students is a specific EMS session addressing patient handling, cold water emergencies, and patient care.
Technician Level - Full 16 hour class with hands-on.
Operations Level - Full 16 Hour class with no-hands on, just observing hands on stations.
Awareness (Separate sign up) first four hours of Saturday Lecture - CME Credit for Suffolk County EMT's (This is included with the 16 hour class).
***Note***
This class is held regardless of weather conditions. Should there be a lack of ice, the class will still be held, however, the training curriculum's hands-on portion may be amended to focus more on surface water rescue.

1. Items purchased from Lifeguard Systems should be paid by Check or Credit card to LGS at the class.
2. You are responsible for providing your own equipment. (BFD/LGS does not lend out equipment).
3. BFD/LGS is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken equipment. Please make sure your agency's name is on anything you bring.
4. Students not showing will be charged unless certain emergency circumstances arise. Any department may replace any student who can not make the class.

Lifeguard Systems Ice Rescue Technician Level 2 (prerequisite Technician Level 1)
The next evolution for those who have been certified as Ice Rescue Technicians. This two-day hands-class will teach multi-victim, mulit rescuer, long distance, the use of pulleys and ice screws as well as other technical objectives.
